Open-Call: Cirko Sapiens Residencies

Teatronas opens up its first contemporary circus centre “Cirko Sapiens” for artistic residencies!

What is “Cirko Sapiens”?

It is a space of 360m2, 6m height, fully equipped for most of the disciplines practiced in the contemporary circus field. The space has a training space, a place to rest and meet, and a restaurant in the same building. Cirko Sapiens is located 5 min driving distance from the city centre of Kaunas.

Who should apply?

Cirko Sapiens is interested in the early stages of development of your artistic projects. So if you have an idea you would like to develop in a circus centre – you are welcome to apply!

What are the residency periods?

This call is for two month-long residency periods:

  • The first period is May 9th – June 9th, 2021. This residency provides a possibility to present a work-in-progress in the context of the contemporary circus festival “Cirkuliacija”.

  • The second residency period is August 9th-September 9th, 2021. This period overlaps with four international festivals in the region that programme circus (ContempoReRigaPlartformaNew Circus Weekend). At the end of the period the residents are encouraged to present a work-in-progress or a workshop to kick-off the new season of the circus centre.

If you are interested in a residency for a different period of time, in a different time of the year – feel free to contact the head of “Cirko Sapiens” at monika@teatronas.lt any time of the year. Priority will be given to circus artists, but all movement based practices are welcome.

 

What does Cirko Sapiens offer?

  • A space that is equipped for most of the disciplines practiced in contemporary circus;

  • Artistic help with dramaturgy, music, or scenography from the creators of Teatronas;

  • Representation on a national level;

  • Possibility to earn additional fee by teaching at Cirko Sapiens

    How to apply?

If you are interested, please fill out this form by the 14th of March. Some of the applicants will be shortlisted for a video call with Cirko Sapiens team. The selected artists will be contacted on the 17th of March. Please note that the Mobility Grant of Nordic Culture Point call is open (March 1st-31st) – Cirko Sapiens team will be glad to assist you with your application and provide you an invitation letter. At the moment, Cirko Sapiens cannot guarantee funding for selected artists, but there might be some better news soon.
