Dance research platform “bitės’22” | UNENDING RESEARCH | Denisas Kolomycki

This year, the dance research platform “bitės’22” updated the format and direction and invited artists to talk about the topic of unending research. Denisas Kolomycki shares his process and experiences during the platform.

Do you have questions/thesis/challenges from which you want to continue the research that you have started?

Questions: combination of the process, progress, action and function. What are the best formulas to develop the research? Is there a recipe or is it just an individual approach?

Thesis: reflection of the political actions thru movement. Detachment from self.

Challenges: the unknown unveiled in trusting guts. How to continue on what is started? Head, heart and soul in combo for the artwork.

Which aspects of the platform enabled you? Which aspects were challenging? In order to know: what did you need/what worked for you?

Enabled: artworks from other artists, intensive sharing and intensive listening of other peers and guest artists. Strong and informative academic approach (literature, contexts, results etc.) and practical examples thru exercises, analysis.

Challenges: deadlines, schedule, blog, social media, internet, geographical location, war, physiological state.

Works for me: long term mentorship, possibility to share the ideas and projects, sketches and the process, kick ass talks

What is the value of having a constant exchange and discussions with the same group of people? How did it influence your thinking?

It is extremely important. Its fulfilling, though very vulnerable. I didn’t want to go personal and though I went, not sure I am happy about that, but by seeing others doing it, I tried to think that it’s safe.
