Airida Gudaitė-Žakevičienė

About

Airida’s goals as a creator and performer reflect the ones in the mission and projects of LOW AIR, a dance theatre she co-founded: to tell more people about the culture of urban dance though building culture communities, introducing dance plays, performances, creating the conditions for education, and initiating various social programmes reachable to anyone.

LOW AIR, Lithuania’s first urban dance theatre, founded in 2012 by Airida Gudaitė and Laurynas Žakevičius, aims to introduce admirers of the theatre to the full potential of street dance.

Their debut play was “Feel-Link”, an emotional duet of urban and contemporary dance, presented in “Atvira erdvė“ [“Open Stage“], the Arts Printing House’s programme for young artists. The creators were nominated for the highest Lithuanian theatre award for this play, and praised by both the theatre community and critics. The play is still being shown today, and it has been performed about 100 times in 12 countries around the world.

Since 2011, the choreographers staged six plays of new dance syntheses, searching for fresh forms in the Lithuanian contemporary dance scene.

Their works have been awarded two Golden Stage Crosses – “Kelionė namo“ [“A trip back home”], a dance, music, theatre, and literature play, and “Žaidimas baigtas“ [“Game over”], a visual dance performance.

LOW AIR experiments by blending different dance styles and movement forms together, choosing unconventional subjects for their plays, and educating young talents on the stage. Their works travel to art festivals in Lithuania and abroad; the creators also take part in many culture projects, dance seminars, international fairs, representing the urban and contemporary dance of Lithuania.
