On 9-11th of November, Kaunas Artists’ House is pleased to invite you to the international premiere of “Commensurate to be with”, a work which acts as an offer to the audience to move beyond the traditional context of dance performance. The proposal is an interaction between dance and a gallery, acting as an intervention to the monumentality of the city: the performances will take place at Mykolas Žilinskas Art Gallery, the bastion of post-modern architecture in the very heart of Kaunas. This work is an invitation to re-evaluate the relationship between the dancing body and the room it occupies. Through the use of unconventional space, both the gallery and the dance are welcoming an unusual kind of gaze to witness the transformation.

The common goal of the performers is to work around the notion of synchronicity. The piece explores being together through a spectrum of spacial and temporal measures. “I am guided by a curiosity to understand what possibilities open up while dancing together rather than alone. What tools can be invented choreographically and performatively in order to achieve a shared sense of perception between the four subjects”, says Liza Baliasnaja, the choreographer of the piece.

“Commensurate to be with” allows the audience to stay in their quotidian, with themselves. It is an establishment of a community that longs to be together.
