For the fourth year in a row the international contemporary dance festival New Baltic Dance\u201814 organizes a project of critical writing \u0160okis \u017eod\u017eiu \u2013 ne[w]kritika<\/i> (Dance through Word \u2013 Not[new]criticism). The coordinators and the participants of the project kindly invite festival\u2019s audience to open lectures with critics and discussions with artists. All those who feel for the creative \u201ckitchen\u201d of dance, who aren\u2018t afraid to share their thoughts with dance artists and who are enthralled by the choreographers, dancers and critics are welcome.<\/p>\n

\nOpen lecture Throwing the Body into Fight. Reflection on the Body as Instrument in Arts<\/i>
\nSpeaker \u2013 Max Ryyn\u00e4nen<\/b><\/p>\n[Max Ryyn\u00e4nen is a lecturer from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Finland. His lecture will focus on the expression and perception of the body, the use of the body as an instrument in contemporary arts and the political role of the body in the arts and society. Max Ryyn\u00e4nen gives lectures on the theatre theory, aesthetics and criticism, philosophy of art and academic writing. He has also authored analytical papers about the problems of contemporary art and it\u2018s institutionalization.]\n

\nOpen discussion Performative Bodies on the Paper or Why the Need for Dance Critique?<\/i>
\nSpeaker and moderator \u2013 Andrius Katinas<\/b><\/p>\n[Choreographer Andrius Katinas (resident in Finland) will moderate a discussion with young dance critics from Lithuania. The discussion will focus on the (un)importance of dance critique, the topic of flesh in dance and performing arts, and on the concept of the body beyond the art context. Choreographer Andrius Katinas not only coordinates the project Dance through Word \u2013 Not[new]criticism, but is also a participant in this year\u2019s festival New Baltic Dance\u201814.]\n

\nAfter the last performance each day there will be artists\u2019 talks in the festival\u2019s club located in the caf\u00e9 of the Arts Printing House.
