Lithuanian Dance Information Centre (LDIC) has recently announced changes in activities, dictated by the pandemic \u2013 it was decided to scale down international projects, redistribute the budget and help the contemporary dance and circus community. The first results of one of the new activities are announced today \u2013 a list of selected artists who will participate in creative residencies at home. \u00a0Some of them offer spectators and colleagues to join the process and become a part of creative projects \u2013 they invite dancers of the first independent Lithuania generation to respond or even those who can share stories of losing their fingertips.<\/p>\n

Opportunity to Strengthen Dance Community<\/strong><\/p>\n

LDIC has invited members of the contemporary dance and circus field to apply for the creative three-month residency, which would take place in their own home or other place in compliance with all security requirements and without breaking any established quarantine restrictions. Authors of the most interesting creative ideas will be invited to present them during the New Baltic Dance festival at the end of the year, or, if possible, the ideas will be integrated into other projects LDIC carry out.<\/p>\n

According to Gintar\u0117 Masteikait\u0117, the director of LDIC, these residencies are not only an opportunity for sector members to work on their creative projects, but also a space to strengthen as a community. \u201cWe are extremely grateful to the Lithuanian Council for Culture for quickly and easily deciding to allow us to re-prioritize activities and redistribute the LDIC budget, considering the current situation. When selecting the participants of the programme, we focused on the projects\u2019 relevance, we also looked for projects that the selected residents could help each other to develop. We want this residency to be not only the development of individual ideas, but also a creative team process. Throughout the residency, we will maintain regular contact with participants, organize meetings and process discussions for the entire selected group.\u201d \u2013 Gintar\u0117 Masteikait\u0117 talks about the new project.<\/p>\n

Residencies Full of Creative and Research Processes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Out of 31 applications, 13 were selected for the residencies. Part of the residents come from contemporary dance field: Agn\u0117 Au\u017eelyt\u0117, Agniet\u0117 Lisi\u010dkinait\u0117, Aist\u0117 Kriukelyt\u0117, Goda \u017dukauskait\u0117, Gr\u0117t\u0117 \u0160mitait\u0117, Ieva Navickait\u0117, Lukas Karvelis<\/strong> will work on choreography and movement researches, Aust\u0117ja Vilkaityt\u0117, Erika Vizbarait\u0117<\/strong> and Marius Paplauskas<\/strong> will work on creating dance films.\u00a0 Three people from contemporary circus were also selected for LDIC residencies: D\u017eiugas Kunsmanas<\/strong> and Marija Baranauskait\u0117<\/strong> will be developing performances, Gildas Aleksa<\/strong> will be preparing a programme and strategy for the youth circus school.<\/p>\n

Join the Residency Projects<\/strong><\/p>\n

All the selected residents have already embarked on their creative works and begun to refine their ideas. Some are already offering to join their artistic research and become part of the residencies. Choreographers and performers Agn\u0117 Au\u017eelyt\u0117 and Ula Liagait\u0117 invite young dance community to share their stories as they prepare to study the development of Lithuanian dance in the last decade. Using different stories of dance creators, the artists will seek to create a documentary dance performance that reveals a portrait of the first generation of independent Lithuania\u2019s dancers.<\/p>\n

Choreographer, dancer, somatic movement educator Aist\u0117 Kriukelyt\u0117 plans to invite spectators who would like to virtually receive a personal dance. Individual dance watching and feedback will become a part of an artistic study of the connection between two people and the authentic movement that emerges from that connection. Its results will become a part of a future book on the somatic movement application.<\/p>\n

Dancer and choreographer Lukas Karvelis invites to respond those who have suffered a specific trauma \u2013 the loss of a fingertip. An artistic study combining topics of loneliness, addiction and feeling of being not enough are part of a new performance. In it, the author uses his own tragicomic story \u2013 losing the tip of a finger in teenage years.<\/p>\n
