Land Before Time – Slow Motion practise (Level A – B; C)
Slow-motion practice is a dance practice with both technical and meditative exercises. The majority of the techniques used come from the African-American dance style popping, while the inspiration and imagination come from water, our biggest life source. Joanna has touched the subject of water physically, scientifically, emotionally, and spiritually when doing her movement research. The movements connected to water were created together with her dance company, Land Before Time. They call them „water movements,“ and it is a common theme in their work together.
In class, we slow down the tempo and work on increasing our body control, balance, present awareness, details, and imagination. The exercises will guide you toward finding your own way of moving and creating illusions where you can immerse yourself in. The teachers will go through techniques as well as concept exercises. Some of the techniques/concepts used are floating, isolations, waves, speedcontrol, weightlessness, pops, slow motion, weight transferring, and more!
Within this practice, the teachers like to open up opportunities for connecting with each other. Once a common body language and authentic listening have been established, we are able to dance with one another. This creates a strong connection and a joint dance flow without physical touch. If time allows, the teachers would love to bring the class toward this momentum.
*Land Before Time seminarai vyks rugpjūčio 18 – 21 dienomis. Rugpjūčio 21 dieną seminarai pradedami 1 valanda anksčiau nei nurodyta tvarkaraštyje.
1. Yuval Pick – Technical Workshop: ‘Practice’ (Level A – C)
For several years, Yuval Pick has been developing a method, Practice, that nourishes his dance and his pieces and that has become the daily training of his company’s dancers.
‘Practice’ enriches dancers’ virtuosity through written and precise exercises and improvisation guided by playful and organic images.
These five fundamentals of ‘Practice’ allow the physical and creative potential of dancers to be expanded:
- Body rotation
- Weight transfer and rebound
- Movement from the centre to the periphery
- The «space-in between»
- Each movement is considered as action motivated by an intention.
‘Practice’ method invites dancers to awaken their body and their creativity through the pleasure of dancing.

During this workshop, participants will engage with creative tasks, physical research, and compositional materials drawn from his current process. The workshop invites each participant to explore the transformation of movement, perception, and presence within a collective dynamic

1. Theo Clinkard – Contemporary Dance Class (Level B-C)
Theo’s classes aim to bring greater attention to the dancers sensory perception of space, other movers and themselves in motion. By balancing these experiences with an awareness of the structural connections and directions within the body, Theo is interested in how we can find greater clarity and a sense of being ‘available’ to both witness and be witnessed whilst dancing. Set to some great music, each class will be a mix of exploration and expansive challenging movement to encourage vivid, articulate and mindful dancing.

He will draw upon a range of improvised scores and creative tasks from various choreographic processes including using gentle touch, place/space, imagination, perception, time and language to generate and communicate through the body to find meaning, feeling and movement for both the performer in action and the observer as they witness. Participants can expect to find confidence and renewed play in a generous safe space that values connectivity for all those that attend.

2. Fábio (Krayze) Januário – Kuduro Style (Level A-C)
Kuduro emerged in the late 1980s, first as a dance and later evolving into a music genre an African House style that blends electronic elements with traditional folklore. It was created and practiced by the poorest communities in Luanda, using the limited resources they had available. The music is distinctive for its use of breaks and funk influences, widely used in the 1980s to create melodies, combined with loops and movements that ultimately reflect much of the population’s reality.
The name of the dance refers to a peculiar movement in which dancers appear to have „hard hips“ or a „stiff butt,“ simulating an aggressive and energetic style of dancing, inspired by movements similar to Van Damme’s kicks.
