Success of the Switzerland-based Lithuanian

Anna-Marija Adomaitytė is a choreographer and dancer from Lithuania, currently based in Geneva, Switzerland. She studied Contemporary Dance at La Manufacture (Haute école des arts de la scène) in Switzerland. In parallel of her choreographic work, Anna-Marija studies Master in Fine Arts at ECAL (École cantonal d’art de Lausanne). Lithuanian audience got a chance to see her performance “workpiece” last summer, during the international contemporary dance festival “New Baltic Dance” in Vilnius, Lithuania.

She has caught the attention of the Aerowaves jury with her latest work “Pas De Deux”. It is a work about the rebellion of two bodies against the heteronormative love that unites them. One of the members of the Aerowaves jury and the head of Lithuanian Dance Information Centre, Gintarė Masteikaitė has shared the impressions about this work: “Anna-Marija Adomaitytė’s latest dance performance “Pas De Deux” attracted attention of the jury from the very first minute, even in a video format. Distinctive choreography, performance accuracy, well-controlled lighting and scenography. Anna-Maria’s work stood out in the overall context of the applications because of the professional performance and fantastic choreographic journey, which left a great impression on many of the network’s partners. Colleagues from Switzerland did not hide their admiration for this performance too and loudly emphasized that Anna-Marija is a choreographer that we all need to follow. We are very happy with Anna-Maria’s success, I hope that this evaluation and further journey with the help of Aerowaves network members will open many doors, as well as contribute to the dissemination of Lithuanian creative work, while attracting more and more attention to the Lithuanian contemporary dance field.”

Lithuanian audiences will soon get an opportunity to see “Pas De Deux” – Anna-Marja Adomaitytė is coming to the “New Baltic Dance” festival in Spring of 2022.

Why Aerowaves Is Important?

Contemporary dance network Aerowaves unites dance organisations from 33 European countries.  Lithuanian Dance Information Centre is one of the oldest network partners and executors of the program, representing Lithuanian contemporary dance artists in the network.

Aerowaves is like an international radar of the best dance performers, naming the twenty most interesting and promising young European choreographers every year. It has a unique opportunity to connect young performers with international dance experts, institutions and festivals.

The open call, announced every June, usually receives more than 600 applications with different dance pieces, which are watched and evaluated by 44 dance experts from different dance institutions across Europe. Each country has the opportunity to present their selected artist in more detail and to answer questions from colleagues about all the applications submitted from that country. During this process, the network partners have the chance to discover new names and artists, learn more about the contemporary dance situation in each country. Only twenty out of hundreds of applicants are included in the internationally presented top.

The works of the selected artists are presented every year during the international contemporary dance festival “New Baltic Dance”, so Lithuanian spectators have a unique opportunity to see the potential future European and / or global stars not only in major cities, but also in Lithuanian periphery.
