About

The mission of LOW AIR – to inform more people about the culture of urban dance though building culture communities, creating and introducing dance performances, creating the conditions for education, and initiating various social programmes reachable to anyone.

Airida Gudaitė and Laurynas Žakevicius established the company Low Air in 2012 as the first urban dance theatre in Lithuania. They aim to uncover the artistic potential of street dance and introduce it to theatre lovers everywhere. They first met on a TV dance contest and a few years later came to prominence by winning another along with festivals appearances and as winners of several awards.

Their debut piece – the romantic street dance performance “Feel-Link” was the first urban/hip-hop dance production in Lithuania and on its debut was nominated for the prestigious Lithuanian Golden Stage Cross theatre awards (for Best Debut of the Year) and choreographers Airida Gudaitė and Laurynas Žakevičius were awarded that competition’s Best Choreographers the following year for their second dance theatre performance “Home Trip” (for Best Choreography of the Year).

For their next two creative dance works choreographer were nominated and afterwards awarded with the prestigious Lithuanian Golden Stage Cross theatre award. Visual dance piece “Game Over” was awarded as a Best dance piece of the year 2016. Same year creators were awarded Borisas Dauguvietis Earring for both the successful research and development of a new stage forms connecting urban dance and theatre and for the pedagogical work which changes a face of Lithuanian contemporary dance. In 2017 dancers and choreographers were awarded by Lithuanian contemporary dance association (Best Choreographic work of 2016). At the end of 2017 Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuanian awarded Low Air choreographers and dancers Airida Gudaite and Laurynas Žakevicius with a National award given to young creators. 2017 the company was titled as Vilnius city dance theatre LOW AIR with an annual funding by Vilnius city municipality.

Laurynas and Airida are constantly experimenting and mixing different dance styles and bringing the new forms of movement and young dancers on the professional theatre stage.

Low Air represents Lithuanian urban contemporary dance face at the international festivals and culture fairs (Edinburg Fringe in U.K., Internationale Tanzmesse NRW in Germany, GogolFest in Ukraine, Suzanne Dellal dance centre in Tel Aviv, Dancestage Shanghai and Beijing New Dance Festival in China, One Dance Week Festival in Bulgaria, Outervision in Greenland and many others). The company performs at the different art events in Lithuania and abroad. Laurynas and Airida are involved in various art projects and exchange programs, participates in and organize dance workshops.
